Police arrest five suspects over kidnapping; victims rescued

The Nsawam District Police Command has arrested five suspected kidnappers following the abduction of two men traveling from Accra to Anyinam. The victims have since been rescued unharmed.

According to police reports, on January 10, 2026, the Command received intelligence that the two men had been kidnapped and taken to an unknown location.

The kidnappers reportedly demanded a ransom of GH¢400,000 from the victims’ family for their release. Following negotiations, the suspects instructed the family to make an initial deposit of GH¢5,000.

Acting swiftly on the information, the police, with support from the Suhum Police, lured the suspects to a drinking spot near the Suhum Roundabout, where all five were arrested. The suspects have been identified as Suleman Salifu, 24; Godfred Owusu, 26; Antwi Bismark, 27; Anas Salis, 38; and Gyamfi Isaac, 33.

The victims, Seidu Sambiane, 28, and Ibrahim Alhassan, 42, were rescued during the operation.

A search conducted on an unregistered Acura 4×4 vehicle used by the suspects led to the retrieval of several items, including an unspecified amount of forged GH¢100 and GH¢200 currency notes, specimen papers cut to the size of banknotes, and cash totaling GH¢4,600. Police also recovered a pistol, a cutlass, talismans and amulets, as well as five mobile phones.

The suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations.
