A six-year-old boy drowned on Boxing Day in an open water tank storage at Kasoa Wallantu in the Central Region.

He was reportedly trying to retrieve a football, which had fallen into the tank.

The victim, identified as Godfred Aboagye, was reportedly playing with a ball when it fell into the tank.

He is said to have entered the tank in an attempt to retrieve the ball.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), who retrieved the body in a statement indicated that a distress call was received at 5:03 pm on December 26, 2025.

They said recovery operations were completed by 5:28 pm, after which the body was handed over to the police for preservation and investigation.
