‘The law is the law’ – Mahama insists as Asake pleads on Cyborg’s behalf over firearm incident

President John Mahama has indicated that due process will be followed in the case of a man identified as Cyborg, who was arrested after celebratorily discharging a firearm into the air during a meet-up with Nigerian music star Asake earlier this week.

Cyborg was arrested on December 29 for the act.

Following the arrest, Asake, during a subsequent encounter with the President, attempted to plead on his behalf, urging him to temper justice with mercy, explaining that the firearm was discharged in the excitement of the moment.

The interaction took place on December 30 at the sidelines of the Supercar Spectacle Sponsors Appreciation event in Accra.

Asake and members of his entourage greeted President Mahama during the event.

Recalling the incident during the exchange, President Mahama asked, “he’s the one the guy fired the gun for?” to which those present responded in the affirmative.

“And he ended up in trouble,” the President added, drawing laughter from the room.

The Nigerian star then apologised on Cyborg’s behalf. President Mahama acknowledged the plea but maintained that due process must prevail.

“Don’t worry about it. The law is the law.”

The music star arrived in the country days ago and performed at the AfroFuture Festival.
