Tensions have flared within the family of the late Ejisu Member of Parliament, John Kumah, following reports that his widow, Apostle Lillian Owusu, has remarried barely a year and a half after his death.

News of the marriage broke on December 19, 2025, after images and videos surfaced online showing Apostle Lillian Owusu tying the knot with Samuel Aryeetey at a wedding ceremony held in Obuasi, in the Ashanti Region.

The development quickly went viral, igniting heated debate on social media over the timing and cultural implications of her remarriage.

John Kumah, a former Deputy Minister of Finance, passed away on March 7, 2024, at the age of 45 after a brief illness.

Widely regarded as a rising star in Ghanaian politics, he was believed to have had the potential for a future presidential bid before his untimely death.

Amid the public debate, John Kumah’s family has now broken its silence. In an interview with Alexis The Godson, the late MP’s brother openly criticised Apostle Lillian Owusu for remarrying what he described as “too soon” after his brother’s death.

According to him, the timeline of events surrounding her new marriage has raised suspicions within the family.

He alleged that the widow may have been involved with her new husband while John Kumah was still alive, a claim that remains unproven and reflects his personal opinion.

The late MP’s brother further explained that John Kumah’s funeral was held in May 2024, and by June 2024, Apostle Lillian Owusu officially entered the one-year widowhood period traditionally observed in their culture.

Based on this timeline, he argued that her remarriage came shortly after the completion of the culturally mandated mourning period, a move he believes lacked sensitivity.

He also expressed disappointment that the widow for failing to formally inform John Kumah’s family of her intention to remarry.

In his remarks, the brother lamented that John Kumah had invested heavily in his wife and children during his lifetime.

He claimed the late MP spent a significant portion of his resources supporting Apostle Lillian Owusu’s ministry, including the construction of a modern church auditorium, among other expenses.

According to him, the family expected a higher level of courtesy and communication from the widow before she decided to remarry.
